Բոլոնիայի «ընկնող» աշտարակը թեք է, բայց կայուն է արդեն 1000 տարի։ Այժմ, սակայն, Գարիզենդա աշտարակի օրերը իտալական Բոլոնիայում, հավանաբար, հաշվված են։ Անցած ամիս իրականացված հետաքննությունից հետո քաղաքի իշխանությունները ձեռնամուխ են եղել քաղաքացիական պաշտպանության պլանին, եթե 12-րդ դարում կառուցված «աշտարակը հանկարծ եւ անսպասելի փլուզվի»։

Փաստաթղթի համաձայն՝ օբյեկտը բերվել է «բարձր պատրաստվածության» վիճակի, նշվել է, որ փորձագետները «կարծում են, որ այլեւս չկան անվտանգության պայմաններ աշտարակում կամ նրա շուրջ աշխատելու համար՝ քաղաքացիական պաշտպանության պլանից բացի»։

Օբյեկտի մոնիթորինգը վերջին ամսում ի հայտ է բերել «աշտարակի հիմքի եւ վերին հատվածի փլուզման անսպասելի եւ արագացված միտում»։

Բոլոնիայի հանրահայտ երկվորյակ աշտարակներից մեկը քաղաքի կենտրոնում՝ 48 մետրանոց Գարիզենդան, կառուցվել է 12-րդ դարում։

Գաիզենդան չորս աստիճան թեքություն ունի եւ դրանով շատ քիչ բանով է տարբերվում Պիզայի աշտարակից։
