Կարծում եմ, մեր մեծ հայրենակցին ամենամեծ նվերը կլիներ այն, որ մենք փորձեինք այնուամենայնիվ խալխից ազգ, ժողովուրդ դառնալու ճանապարհը ընտրել՝ սիրել ու հոգ տանել իրարու։

«Ես չեմ ուզում եւ չեմ կարող երկար ու բարակ գրել մեր երկրից, թեեւ դու հարցնում ես։ Կարճ ասեմ. մենք թե՛ դրսից, եւ թե՛ ներսից քանդեցինք մեր երկիրը։ Գլխավորապես մենք։ Մենք եմ ասում, եւ սրա մեջն է ճշմարտությունը։ Մի մասը խաչագող սրիկաներ, մի մասը գողեր ու ավազակներ, մի մասը ապիկար թշվառականներ, եւ չերեւաց մի բազմություն, գոնե մի խմբակ, որ վերածնվող երկրի շունչը ու բարոյական կարողությունը հայտնաբերեր։

Էսքան աղետների ու պարտությունների մեջ ո՛չ մի մեղավոր չերեւաց, ո՛չ ոք ոչ պատասխանի կանչվեց, ոչ պատասխան տվեց։ Եվ շարունակվում է. այժմ էլ նույն մարդիկը, նույն ճանապարհներով… Եվ ոչ մեկը գոնե անձնասպան չեղավ, որ ապացուցաներ, թե գոնե ամոթ ու խղճմտանք կա էս մարդկանց մեջ կամ էս ժողովրդի մեջ։ Բայց ես ինչ եմ ասում — չկարողացան գոնե վշտանալ կամ վշտացած երեւալ»։
