Միջազգային նոր հետազոտությունը, որի արդյունքները հրապարակվել են The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology ամսագրում, ցույց է տվել, որ այն մարդկանց մոտ, ովքեր ունեն արյան մեջ շաքարի բարձր մակարդակ, բայց դեռ չեն հասել շաքարային դիաբետի շեմին, գլյուկոզայի մակարդակի գրեթե կրկնակի իջեցումը զուգորդվում է սրտանոթային հիվանդությունների ռիսկի նկատելի նվազմամբ։

Վերլուծությունը միավորել է մի քանի խոշոր պրոսպեկտիվ հետազոտությունների տվյալներ, որոնց մասնակցել են տարբեր երկրներից եկած  տասնյակ հազարավոր չափահասներ։

Գիտնականները մի քանի տարվա ընթացքում չափել են գլյուկոզայի մակարդակը և հետևել սրտանոթային ելքերի զարգացմանը, ինչպիսիք են՝ ինֆարկտը, ինսուլտը և սրտային անբավարարությունը։ Այնուհետև նրանք համադրել են այդ վիճակների զարգացման ռիսկը արյան մեջ շաքարի տարբեր մակարդակ ունեցող մարդկանց մոտ։

Արդյունքները ցույց են տվել, որ այն մարդիկ, ովքեր ունեցել են նորմալ միջակայքի վերին սահմանին գտնվող գլյուկոզայի մակարդակ, ունեցել են սրտանոթային հիվանդությունների զարգացման զգալիորեն բարձր ռիսկ, համեմատած նրանց հետ, ում մոտ շաքարի մակարդակը զգալիորեն ցածր է եղել։ Ընդ որում, գլյուկոզայի մակարդակի գրեթե կրկնակի նվազեցումը (այսինքն՝ արյան մեջ շաքարի կոնցենտրացիայի զգալի նվազում, բայց պարտադիր չէ, որ դիաբետի մակարդակին) կապված է եղել սրտանոթային բարդությունների ռիսկի նկատելի նվազեցման հետ։ Այս էֆեկտը կայուն է մնացել նույնիսկ այնպիսի գործոնների համար ճշգրտումներ կատարելուց հետո, ինչպիսիք են տարիքը, սեռը, մարմնի զանգվածի ինդեքսը և կենսակերպի սովորությունները։

Հետազոտության հեղինակներն ընդգծում են, որ այս տվյալներն առանձնապես կարևոր են հենց «նախադիաբետային» կարգավիճակ ունեցող մարդկանց համար, երբ արյան մեջ շաքարի մակարդակը բարձր է, բայց դեռ չի գերազանցում շաքարային դիաբետի ախտորոշման համար սահմանված շեմը։

Վաղ միջամտությունը և կենսակերպի փոփոխությունը՝ ֆիզիկական ակտիվությունը, սննդակարգի փոփոխությունը, մարմնի քաշի նվազեցումը, կարող են նպաստել շաքարի մակարդակի զգալի իջեցմանը և դրանով իսկ նվազեցնել սրտային հիվանդությունների ռիսկը։

Գիտնականները կարծում են, որ գլյուկոզայի մակարդակի և սրտանոթային ռիսկերի միջև փոխկապակցվածությունը հասկանալը պետք է խթանի ավելի վաղ և ակտիվ միջամտությունը, նույնիսկ նրանց մոտ, ովքեր դեռ չեն ստացել դիաբետի պաշտոնական ախտորոշում։ Նրանք ընդգծում են, որ շաքարի մակարդակը ոչ միայն դիաբետի, այլև սրտանոթային ռիսկի գնահատման համար որպես մարկեր օգտագործելը կարող է բարելավել կանխարգելիչ բժշկությունը և նվազեցնել սրտային հիվանդությունների գլոբալ բեռը։
