Մեղրիի ճանապարհի վերահսկողության արտապատվիրակման և տարածաշրջան ԱՄՆ-ին ներգրավելու՝ ՀՀ իշխանությունների ջանքերի ֆոնին, կանխատեսելի էր, որ պաշտոնական Թեհրանը չափազանց նյարդային կարձագանքի նման զարգացումներին։ Իրանի գերագույն հոգևոր առաջնորդի միջազգային հարցերով խորհրդական Ալի Աքբար Վելայաթին նախազգուշացում է հնչեցրել այսպես կոչված «Զանգեզուրի միջանցքի» վերաբերյալ՝ ընդգծելով, որ Իրանը խիստ կարձագանքի։

Նշելով, որ որոշ կառավարություններ հերթական անգամ, անտեսելով սեփական և տարածաշրջանի շահերը, բարձրացրել են «Զանգեզուրի միջանցքի» հարցը՝ Վելայաթին ընդգծել է, թե որոշ երկրներ փորձում են ներխուժել բոլոր հնարավոր դռներով՝ Հարավային Կովկասում առաջ մղելով իրենց ապօրինի նպատակները։ «Ցանկանում եմ հիշեցնել, որ ցանկացած կառավարություն՝ լինի տարածաշրջանից, թե դրսից, որը կփորձի կրկնել այս ձախողված փորձը, կբախվի Իրանի կոշտ արձագանքի»,– նշել է Վելայաթին։

Աշխատանքային այցով Թուրքմենստանի Թուրքմենբաշի քաղաքում գտնվող նախագահ Վահագն Խաչատուրյանը երեկ, «Դեպի ծով ելք չունեցող երկրների երրորդ համաժողովի» շրջանակում, հանդիպել է Իրանի փոխնախագահ Մոհամմադ Ռեզա Արեֆի հետ։ Վերջինս նշել է, որ Հայաստանը հատուկ տեղ ունի Իրանի Իսլամական Հանրապետության հարևանության քաղաքականության մեջ, և որ Թեհրան–Երևան հարաբերությունները հիմնված են ամուր և անխորտակելի հիմքերի վրա։ Միևնույն ժամանակ, իրանցի պաշտոնյան ընդգծել է, որ խաղաղությունը տարածաշրջանի բոլոր երկրների շահերից է բխում, և տարածաշրջանային խնդիրների լուծումը պետք է իրականացվի առանց օտարերկրյա պետությունների միջամտության։

Դիվանագիտական լեզվից թարգմանած՝ Իրանի փոխնախագահը ՀՀ իշխանություններին հստակ հասկացնում է. ԱՄՆ-ին Հարավային Կովկաս բերելով՝ Հայաստանը վտանգում է հայ-իրանական հարաբերությունները՝ դրանից բխող բոլոր հետևանքներով։
