«Աղձք» պատմամշակութային արգելոցը գտնվում է ՀՀ Արագածոտնի մարզի Աշտարակ համայնքի Աղձք բնակավայրում, նշում է ԿԳՄՍ նախարարությունը:

Աղձքը հայ պատմագրության մեջ առաջին անգամ հիշատակում են Փավստոս Բուզանդը և Մովսես Խորենացին:

Արգելոցը ներառում է արքաների դամբարանը, եկեղեցի, կոթողներ, օժանդակ և այլ կառույցների մնացորդներ: Արքաների դամբարանը կառուցված է կրաշաղախով կապակցված սև և կարմիր սրբատաշ տուֆ քարերից: Ընդունված տեսակետի համաձայն՝ դամբարանը կառուցվել է 364 թվականին:

Աղձքում թաղվել են հայ հեթանոս և քրիստոնյա թագավորների ոսկորները: Այս հանգամանքը իր որոշակի նշանակությունն է ունեցել պատկերաքանդակների սյուժեների ընտրության հարցում: Այստեղ առկա են ինչպես ավանդական, նախաքրիստոնեական դիցարանին բնորոշ, այնպես էլ աստվածաշնչյան թեմաներով հարթաքանդակներ:

Արքաների դամբարանի հարթաքանդակներում, ըստ վերակազմության, պատկերված են շրջանի մեջ ներգծված ուղիղ թևերով խաչ, շներ, այծյամ, ցուլ և թռչուններ: Աջակողմյան սյան ներքևում պատկերված է տեսարան, որում հսկա առյուծը ցատկել է եղջերուի մեջքին և քարացել հաղթողի հպարտ կեցվածքով: Առյուծից վեր պատկերված է շրջանի մեջ ներգծված խաչ:

Աղձքի եկեղեցական համալիրը՝ որպես վանահայրություն, հայ մատենագրության մեջ առաջին անգամ հիշատակվում է 607 թվականին՝ Դվինում կայացած կաթողիկոսական ընտրաժողովի կապակցությամբ:

Եկեղեցին՝ եռանավ հորինվածքով, հարավից հպված է արքայական դամբարանին և թվագրվում է IV դարով:

Պահպանվել են եկեղեցու որմերի և մույթերի ստորին հատվածները` արևելյան կողմում և աբսիդի մոտ: Եկեղեցու մերձակա տարածքում հայտնաբերված հարթաքանդակները պատկերում են վեհապանծ քայլող պարարտ խոյեր, ծառից տերև պոկող նրբագեղ, վախվորած եղնիկներ, հզոր եղջյուրներով զարդարված եղջերուներ, ծուռթաթ արջեր, երկսապատ ուղտեր, արքայական ժապավեն–վզնոցներով զարդարված արծիվներ, փղեր և այլ կենդանիներ ու թռչուններ: Առավել մեծ տարածում են ունեցել գերագույն արքայական իշխանություն խորհրդանշող արծիվների հարթաքանդակները:

«Աղձք» պատմամշակութային արգելոցը ՀՀ ԿԳՄՍՆ «Պատմամշակութային արգելոց-թանգարանների և պատմական միջավայրի պահպանության ծառայություն» ՊՈԱԿ-ի մասնաճյուղ է։
