Ջոն Դևիսոն Ռոքֆելլերը պատմության մեջ մտավ ոչ միայն որպես Երկրի ամենահարուստ մարդ, այլ նաեւ որպես  ֆինանսիստ փիլիսոփա:Ջոն Ռոքֆելլերը մինչեւ օրս համարվում է  ամենահարուստ մարդը։ Նա կյանքից հեռացավ 1937 թվականին, երբ 97 տարեկան էր։ Ժամանակակից գումարով, այն ժամանակ նրա կարողությունը կազմում էր ամերիկյան ՀՆԱ-ի 1,5%-ը՝ հասնելով 660 միլիարդ դոլարի։

Երբ Ջոն Ռոքֆելլերը երիտասարդ էր, նա ասել էր, որ երկու երազանք ունի՝ վաստակել 100.000 դոլար և ապրել մինչև 100 տարի։ Նա մահացել է իր 98-ամյակից 2 ամիս առաջ` չիրականացնելով 2-րդ երազանքը:

Նրա հետքերով գնաց նրա միակ որդին և ժառանգը՝ նաև Ջոն Դևիսոնը։ Ստանձնելով հոր բիզնեսը՝ նա մոտ 10 տարի ղեկավարեց «Ստանդարտ Օյլ»-ը, իսկ հետո թոշակի անցավ՝ բարեգործությամբ զբաղվելու համար։

Ռոքֆելլերներն իրենց հարստությունը ձեռք են բերել նավթային բիզնեսում 19-րդ դարի վերջին։ Եղբայրներ Ջոն և Ուիլյամը հիմնեցին ընկերությունը, որն այդ տարիներին արտադրում էր ամերիկյան վառելիքի 95%-ը։ Նրանց հետնորդները դարձան ազդեցիկ արդյունաբերողներ, բանկիրներ և քաղաքական գործիչներ և զգալիորեն ավելացրին ընտանեկան կապիտալը։ Կլանը գաղտնի է պահում իր հարստության չափը։

Ռոքֆելերները Շրի Լանկան բերեցին քաղաքացիական պատերազմի։ Պատճառը երկրի պատմության մեջ ամենամեծ ճգնաժամն է։ Ցեյլոնի տնտեսությունը «սպանվեց» ամերիկյան հայտնի ընտանիքի հիմնադրման կողմից ֆինանսավորվող բնապահպանական փորձերի արդյունքում։

20-րդ դարի սկզբին Ռոքֆելլերները հիմնեցին բարեգործական հիմնադրամ՝ իբր այլ երկրներին օգնելու նպատակով։ Բայց աշխարհը փրկելու պատրվակով կլանը միջամտում է այլ պետությունների քաղաքականությանը։ Ամենից հաճախ դա ավարտվում է անհաջողությամբ. հեղափոխություններ, անկարգություններ, քաղաքացիական պատերազմներ: Հարյուրավոր մարդիկ են մահանում։ Որոշ հետազոտողներ կարծում են, որ այս կերպ ամերիկացի մուլտիմիլիոնատերերը փորձում են զսպել մոլորակի գերբնակեցումը և վերահսկել ռեսուրսների բաշխումը։
