Դեկտեմբերի 5-ին, ինչպես մի շարք համայնքներում, Աշտարակ քաղաքում եւս, որը վերջին փոփոխություններով խոշորացվեց, կանցկացվեն համայնքի ղեկավարի ընտրություններ։ Արդեն հայտնի է, որ իշխող «Քաղաքացիական պայմանագիր» կուսակցության ցուցակը կգլխավորի գործող քաղաքապետ, անկուսակցական Թովմաս Շահվերդյանը։ Ու թեեւ նախորդ անգամ՝ 2016 թվականին, նա քաղաքապետ էր ընտրվել նախորդ իշխանությունների՝ ՀՀԿ-ի աջակցությամբ, իշխանափոխությունից հետո հասցրել է դառնալ նաեւ գործող իշխանությունների «սրտի թեկնածուն»։

Մենք գրել էինք, որ Շահվերդյանն Արագածոտնի արդեն նախկին մարզպետի՝ Դավիթ Գեւորգյանի հետ ուներ ջերմ հարաբերություններ, նրան ֆինանսապես աջակցում էր, Գեւորգյանն էլ լոբբինգ էր անում, որ ՔՊ-ի ցուցակը Շահվերդյանը գլխավորի։ ՔՊ-ն հոկտեմբերի 27-ին հայտարարեց, թե ում է պատրաստվում առաջադրել տեղերում համայնքապետերի թեկնածու։ Դրա հենց հաջորդ օրը՝ հոկտեմբերի 28-ին, Դավիթ Գեւորգյանն անսպասելի ազատվեց մարզպետի պաշտոնից, եւ նրա փոխարեն մարզպետ նշանակվեց Ռազմիկ Պետրոսյանը։ Ըստ որոշ լուրերի՝ մարզպետն Աշտարակի քաղաքապետի հետ որոշ տարաձայնություններ է ունեցել: Հիմա պետք է գործող քաղաքապետը հարաբերություններ հաստատի արդեն նոր մարզպետի հետ, ով ծնունդով Ապարանից է` տարիներ առաջ Ապարանի քաղաքապետն է եղել։

ՔՊ-ն եւ անձամբ Թովմաս Շահվերդյանն Աշտարակում կմրցեն եւս երկու քաղաքական ուժերի՝ Արթուր Վանեցյանի գլխավորած «Հայրենիք» կուսակցության եւ Դաշնակցության հետ։ «Հայրենիք» կուսակցության ցուցակը կգլխավորի Ազատ Զաքարյանը, որն Աշտարակի ավագանու անդամ է, իսկ ՀՅԴ-ի ցուցակը՝ Կարապետ Առաքելյանը։
